About Learning in Hand and Tony Vincent
Learning in Hand started in 2002 as part of my classroom website. At first focusing on Palm handhelds, Learning in Hand now encompasses anything I think might be handy for teachers.
I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa and after 12 years of self-employment, I returned to classroom teaching for the 2018-2019 school year. I taught fifth graders at College View Elementary School. Teaching in a classroom for the year has reinvigorated my passion for helping teachers.
Since 1998 I've been a pioneer in digital learning, having a classroom website before many classrooms even had internet access. In 2001 I had a one-to-one classroom with Palm Pilots, and in 2005 I started one of the first podcasts from an elementary school. After teaching fifth grade for six years, I was my school's technology coach for a couple more. I enjoyed helping my colleagues integrate technology.
In 2006 I became a self-employed consultant. I have traveled almost every state, Canada, Australia, England, and the Caribbean to facilitate workshops and to make presentations to K-12 educators and students.
I've been on a mission to help teachers be more awesome, and that often involves technology. Over the years I have co-authored books, produced videos, developed an iPad app, and blogged about learning and technology—all in an effort to support great teaching and deeper learning.

Tony Vincent Biography
Tony Vincent is a seasoned educator and innovator living in Iowa. Tony's journey began 26 years ago when he started teaching fifth grade in Nebraska. In 2001 his class piloted using Palm Pilots as 1:1 devices and helped other teachers bring technology into their classroom to boost creativity, curiosity, and learning. That's how his Learning in Hand website started.
He later became his school's technology coach, empowering learners to create media designed to reach an authentic audience. In fact, his school was one of the first to publish a podcast for kids and by kids in 2005. Tony's passion for education and technology eventually led him to become a self-employed entrepreneur, speaking at conferences and working with teachers and students worldwide.
Tony has always remained committed to his roots in teaching, as evidenced by his return to the fifth-grade classroom during the 2018-2019 school year. During that year, Tony's students became Chromebook superusers and creative communicators. This experience led him to develop Shapegrams.com, a series of digital drawing lessons and challenges aimed at helping students become better thinkers and artists.
Currently, Tony helps out his local school as a substitute teacher, and he continues to be a speaker and consultant. He is probably most known for posting handy resources and tips on social media.
Whether he's in the classroom or on the conference stage, Tony's energy and passion for teaching are infectious, and his insights and expertise are invaluable to anyone looking to bring innovation and creativity to their practice.
